Position Summary
BOOST is helping our client hire a strategic leader to manage a cutting-edge software engineering organization in support of both internal and client operations. Reporting directly into the top company executive, the Director – Software Engineering is responsible for leading software development teams, shaping enterprise-grade software systems, and ensuring secure, innovative, and scalable solutions. This role requires strong leadership in DevSecOps practices, hands-on experience building and modernizing software platforms, and the ability to operate at both a strategic and tactical level.


This is a mostly remote role with regular on-site work at the client’s suburban DC location. This client values and rewards self-starters who operate independently, solve problems effectively, are hands-on as needed, and represent well in front of clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Software Engineering Leadership
• Oversee the architecture, design, development, and continuous improvement of enterprise software systems.
• Lead a highly skilled team of software engineers and DevSecOps professionals, providing mentorship, coaching, and direction.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and accountability.
Strategic Alignment
• Partner with executive leadership to ensure software strategies align with business objectives and client missions.
• Translate business needs into scalable, secure, and sustainable technical solutions.
DevSecOps & Compliance
• Drive adoption and maturity of DevSecOps processes, ensuring security is embedded across the full software development lifecycle.
• Maintain compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements (e.g., NIST, CMMC, FedRAMP) and support audits and authorizations as needed.
• Establish automated pipelines for secure code integration, deployment, and monitoring.
Innovation & Modernization
• Oversee efforts to maintain, upgrade, and modernize legacy systems while driving innovation in new platforms and applications.
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve software performance, maintainability, and scalability.
Project & Vendor Management
• Manage software projects from planning through execution, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Collaborate with third-party vendors, integrators, and government stakeholders to support business and technical objectives.

Qualifications:
Required:
• U.S. citizenship is required; applicants must be eligible for a security clearance (active clearance is a plus).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity managing development teams. (A Master’s degree may substitute for 2 years of experience.)
• Proven experience with:
o Leading software development teams delivering enterprise applications.
o Building, maintaining, and innovating large-scale software systems.
o Implementing and scaling DevSecOps processes.
o Agile development methodologies.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with ability to engage stakeholders across all levels.
• Demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality results in complex technical environments.
Preferred:
• Background in federal contracting or other highly regulated industries.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, FISMA, and CMMC.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native systems (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Compensation & Benefits
• Salary Range: $160,000 - $180,000, with significant performance-based bonus potential.
